'Donating' Plasma. Saving the World and Making Money

So today I went to donate plasma for the first time. Since it was my first time it took about three hours, from personal information, to the blood test, a physical, and then the actual donation. I was expecting a needle similar to the one a doctor uses to take blood, but no, this thing was a much larger gauge and hurt. I sat there with a numb arm for 75 minutes alternating between pumping my fist to relaxing. Donating plasma consists of pulling the blood from your arm then separating the plasma from the red and white blood cells. All in all it was an unpleasant experience, but the $50 pay out on my “donation” was not a bad reward for the little over an hour of displeasure.

OnLive! Play your games remotely

I think I heard about this a while back but by coincidence stumbled upon it again a couple days ago. OnLive is a service that lets you play an ass load of games directly from your computer/ mac or TV without needing a “console”(**EDIT: Actually right now there aren’t thaat many games, about 20. But OnLive does have partnerships with the big Developers and promise more games to come. Here is a list of games available right now: Games). No console meaning you don’t need a X360 or a PS3, just this tiny receiver that they may be giving away for free. The way it works is you’re basically playing all these games remotely, they call it ‘cloud-gaming’. Which means you don’t need a top of the line PC anymore to play games like Crysis. Games are fun over the internet and all your computer has to do is deal with input/output. I don’t know all the details right now, so I won’t waste your time pretending. They are giving away free one year subsciptions (thanks to AT&T) on a first come first serve basis. Like I said I saw this a couple days ago and signed up right away, today I got an email saying I qualified for a full year of free OnLive service. You still have to buy the games, but the rest is free.

When I first read about it I was skeptical about the quality and lag that running a whole game from a remote server would cause so I tried it out. Through the desktop app I found a demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum and tried it out. The “demo” is more like a 30 min trial of the full game. But, to my suprise, no lag and it only took about 60 sec to start up the game and from there on it was just like playing locally from a CD or Steam.

I recommend you go check it out and see if you can get a free account while they last, who knows, maybe this really is Next Generation Gaming. If not, it didn’t cost you anything.

I’m trying my best to be productive here, getting on with my job search and now updating my LinkedIn. But there’s so much shit to update and like 47 different categories of things no one will ever read. I’d love to put up a professional picture to show that I’m a functioning member of society but all I can seem to find are pictures with my friends and/or with a beer in my hand. I also feel like this whole site is more for people with careers rather than people like me who still have no plan in life and are just looking for a quick full time job to earn enough money to make the next step.

Now let me buckle down and try to finish this profile and resume. Any of you guys have a LinkedIn?

Something I’ve been doing for a while now, whenever I get an interview with a company is go online and check some reviews on how the interview process is by company. I just recently found a really cool website that gives you an inside look on the interview process, average salaries, and general company experiences. The Site is called Glassdoor.com

The way the site works is you get a small trial to look at a company, but after the short trial expires you’re prompted to start an account. It’s free, well almost, you have to write a short review (at least 50 words) and publish it, then you have full access to roam the site and look at almost every large company in the US and some other Countries.

I just started my account by posting my recent experience with an interview I had at a store I’m not going to comment on until after I hear back from them about an offer. But yea, check it out, it’s a cool little concept and it’s made my life a little easier, and interviews a little more predictable.

I’ll post the link in a second.

So after a 2 month period of working as a painter I’m back in the unemployment pool. The pay was great as a painter but being afraid of heights doesn’t help when you spend 6 hours a day on a ladder more than 20ft above the safe ground.

Right now I’m waiting to hear back about another job and counting my remaining quarters and dimes. All is not bad, everything figures itself out somehow and I’m making the best of having fun with my friends.
